 Standard shot taken with #01 8.5mm prime. Equivalent of 47mm lens on 35mm camera. Telephoto shot taken with Pentax DA*300 at f4 (1650mm eq on 35mm). Nest is barely visible in standard view. Will be going back to photograph these eagles - they live about 35 min from my house!

... and much more clear and crisp looking than I've seen taken with ultra-telephoto lenses like the 50-500.

I also note that with all the water around the trees, you couldn't have just walked in closer to take the shot.

I think pentax 'fans' especially on PentaxForums  have talked this camera down so much that it's a real shame that more people don't realize the quality of image you can get.
