I saw that and resolved to go back and read it carefully. I view it as good empirical data to be kept in mind and there were some interesting conclusions there too. Thanks for posting this link.

I have no idea what the future will hold, which future? by when? I think that mirrorless cameras are very good and will continue to get better, frankly I think P&S type compact cameras are the most likely to bite the dust as cell phones are getting just as good if not better. I read an article today speculating that DSLRs will be gone (make that new DSLRs) in five years due to mirrorless camera improvements. Again, who knows? However, if you'd asked a lot of photographers in 1999 if they'd ever go digital they would have likely said, 'what are you crazy? it's too expensive and film is much better.' Things change.
