After the experience we have on our Pentax D-SLRs and computer technology,
I wonder why my Pentax Z-1 focuses just fine, while my Pentax K10D which is a much newer camera in terms of technology has front or back focus problems (with Pentax lens for example with my Pentax SMC-FA 35/f2).
Are they going to make a new firmware with an enhanced database in supporting more lenses, or give us  the opportunity by a new option to do what Pentax K20D is capable of adjusting the focus for our lenses?

I doubt we'll see any firmware updates for the K10D; they've moved onto newer cameras.

Write to them and tell them your issue and put the question to them.  You never know..... if enough people knock they may open that door (but remember that door is farther down the hallway).
Of all the features Pentax has developed and packed into their cameras, the auto focus is the biggest disappointment for me. I do believe as we all get older and our eyesight fails us we really need to be able to rely on autofocus systems. I would trade 1000 video features, and all the onboard  filters,  for an auto focus system that was quick and accurate. So put in a good word for some K20D updates if you do write to Pentax.

I will do it, Spyglass!  But, as you told me I mustn't be alone.

Robt61x49, all we know that all these companies want to sell products. But, I have the feeling that Pentax cares about the quality of their products, which means that they care about having us with smiley faces.  And I think they must develop the aftersaleservice philosophy, not only for Pentax K10D, but for every other model.

Here is the text I introduce. Tell me if you agree or would like any change because my English isn't the best  Roll Eyes:

Dear friends of Pentax company,
I wonder about the front or back focus problems of my K10D Pentax camera, as older film and digital AF Pentax bodies  didn't have this bug.
So, I would like to ask you, as I am one of your customers (........you can put here everything of Pentax equipment you have got and use...), to enhance the  K10D lens database software by a new firmware, or to unlock it giving the right to other programmers make the changes we need.
Of course, I wish I had the money to buy every new model of you, but this is not only impossible for my economical situation, but also bad for the ecology of our planet and for your name, as well, because it is better to say "My customers are still happy with Pentax K10D camera", which means that you produce wonderful cameras and make many many more supporters, because of that.

So, if you agree tell me in order to send this text a lot of us and see what can we do, and what Pentax can do, as well...!

Hi Teogin

If the problem only occurs with one lens, then might be the lens, if it's with all lenses, then probably the camera is at fault.  Domenic sent both his camera and lenses back and got the problem resolved.

It should be possible to fix your K10 yourself, there is this old thread on the subject.  (Personally, I would just pay to get it done professionally - breaking my camera would be a bad feeling!)

I thought I had focusing problems with mine, then I discovered this issue was only under artificial light and not daylight.  I think the wavelength matters here and is only noticeable with short depth of field lens like your 35/f2, or in my case, it was the 50/1.4.

Dear Calsan,
I tried the lens with my Pentax Z1 and operated wonderful. And I have never had a problem with my Z1. I just wonder if anyone of Pentax users had front or back focus on a film body.
If not, I would like to know, what did make it change.
It seems to me as a new car without security belts.

The link you introduced me doesn't work and of course the best solution would be to go at the service with all of my equipment.
Also the light problem you mentioned wouldn't be a problem for a new and high technology camera.
The point is not saving Pentax but to make it better than it is already!

here is the correct link.  Hope it works.

if that doesn't work, try pasting this after http://
pentaxworld.com/forum/cafe-corner/is-there-a-need-to-send-our-k10d-back-to-service-centre-for-tuning/

Also see this link for an example of a discussion of the effect that different light wavelengths will make to a (Canon) camera.
http://forums.dpreview.co...1031&message=29245803

I have found that if you set the white balance of the camera to tungsten, it seems to help focusing under indoor lighting.
My K-7 does not have this problem to the same extent as my K10, but it also does the white balance better under tungsten and incandescent light.

I do think that we didn't notice this problem on film, because we rarely enlarged photos enough to notice such fine focusing.
