The K7 live view sound check
«

This one is for all the K7 owners out there. This is the case, when my K7 is in live view mode it makes some rather audible buzzing sound. Now this can mean two things, one "this is perfectly normal" or two "this really disturbing".
So here is my question: “Could you (as K7 owner) listen closely to your K7 body while it’s in live view mode and please tell me what you hear?”
My guess is that the mirror is held up during live view using an electromagnet; this would explain the buzzing noise, but I’m not sure so that’s why I’m asking.
By the way when you turn the body let’s say 90degrees, I hear a sliding sound, I guess that’s the position/leveling censor, could any of you confirm this please?
Thanks for checking,
Greetings,
Daan

Bonjour,
I did the test on my K-7 and heard the same buzzing sound.
I tried two things:
removing the shake reduction
removing the auto-levelling
but with no result
.
Actually, I don't like LiveView
so I haven't used it and consequently haven't noticed this sound before...
Any other K-7 users' feed-back

Ok, I don't have a K7 but this sound (quite literally) like something I've noticed on my k100dsuper. When I flip up the mirror to clean the sensor, there is a buzzing / whining sound that continues until the mirror is returned to it's normal position. My k10 and k20 do not do this. My first reaction on my k100 was to assume that something was wrong but, after a year of this behavior, there doesn't appear to be anything wrong so I presume that it's 'normal.'
So this does sound like similar behavior.

I don't have the K-7 either, but I just checked my K10 and K20 and they both have that buzzing noise when the mirror is locked up. It's not real loud, but it's there. The clunking sound when the body is rotated has been present on every Pentax body with anti-shake that I have owned.

Bonjour Daan,
Based on the remarks posted by blackcloudbrew and RaCort, I performed the test on mly Pentax K-7.
Thank you for your feed-back
When the mirror is locked up, the buzzing sound appears.
So everything seems normal

Thanks for the replies; I also own a K100Ds and it is making the exact type of sound as the K7 when the mirror is up, only the buzzing sound K7 is a little louder than the K100Ds.
So I guess the buzzing sound is normal when the mirror is up, but what is causing the buzzing sound??? I turned the shake reduction and leveling off, so this can’t be causing the sound.
By the way, a friend of mine owns a Canon 7D, when the 7D’s mirror is up there is no sound at all, I have no idea how it’s on a Nikon?
Greetings, Daan

If I stick my ear directly on the camera I can hear two sounds - one is whirring and the other is these little chug noises at random intervals.
Can't hear it if holding the camera a safe distance from my head...

LOL. You remind me of an old friend who thought that everyone in the world was crazy and he was the only sane one. He said he was here just to listen to the noise...

Funny..... when I hold my K20 up to my ear I can hear the ocean. Do you think if I placed a shorter lens on the K20 the ocean would sound closer?
Talking about sounds, my wife was nattering at me while I was watching the hockey game. She became a little annoyed by my lack of response. I apologized and told her that she sounded like back ground rink noise. - yeah..... I think I will be making my own supper tonight.
