Thanks for this study. Personally, I use the monochrome when I want to visualize what a composition might look like as a B&W shot.

I once shot B&W all the time, but have no market for it now. Even those who still print some B&W tell me to just submit color files for it. An interesting experiment for you might be to shoot a scene in Monochrome and another in whatever color scene mode you prefer and compare the in-camera and software monochrome conversions.

I'm talking about this on dp review as well, and someone over there mentioned interesting uses for Muted and Bleach Bypass.

The bleach bypass look is available in LightRoom3 as a preset for development. For me, that's were I'm more likely to use it, in PP work. On muted...well, I'm just not that kinda guy!

I just noticed while out shooting this afternoon that I had forgotten to change the WB from flash when I took those test shots this morning. I had been testing it with flash last evening and forgot to change it. So many option, so many ways to screw up.

If you were shooting in RAW that should be no problem. However, been there done that. I personally love to go out in the real world with the WB set on tungsten...It's a Blue World After All...

Yes, I always shoot RAW only, but these were just test shots, not keepers.
