Founded in 1919 as Asahi Optical Joint Stock Co, producing lenses and other high quality optical equipment, Asahi Optical Company (AOC) was established in 1938. The company Pentax Corporation was change on 1st October, 2002 . The company is a pioneer and technological leader in the SLR camera industry, beginning with the introduction of its first Japanese SLR Camera, the Asahiflex I in 1952. 2 years later the Asahiflex II emerged and featured the world’s first instant return mirror system. In 1957, Asahi introduced the now-legendary Asahi Pentax, the first time the word “Pentax” is used which derived from the words ‘pentaprism’ and ‘reflex’. Asahi continued to produce many innovative and affordable products thru’ the years. In 2007, Hoya Corporation started to discuss on the merger with Pentax. The merger was completed on March 31, 2008.
Today, Pentax concept is “outdoor” which was why Pentax continue to promote Optio WP series and also the recent announcement on the weather resistant , moisture resistant and dust proof K-7 DSLR camera. It will be available in Malaysia market by early or middle of July.
