I've been reading several articles on this and just came on this summary.

From what I've read in other articles, it appears the Nikon was hardest hit. This is just very sad.  Cry

Not sure how many members we have with us from Japan, but our thoughts are with them and their families during this current state of emergency. I can not even begin to think what it must be like for the people living there.

Respectfully,

I have been most impressed with the Japanese people. No looting. None. I think they are noble people with great integrety.
Imagine something like that happening here.
Well, it might be better in Canada, too, eh?

T-man,

If a natural disaster happen in Canada we would probably be playing hockey and miss it. And if we did come face to face with a nature disaster we would probably apologize to it.  Grin ............. "Sorry we put our shore line in your way eh!?

As far as looting goes, I think that the conduct of the citizens of Japan is a reflection of their quality of character. It is so important to band together in difficult times.

My wife is from Japan - happily, her family are all OK, as they live south west of Tokyo.

It's a beautiful country, and the price to pay for the natural beauty of the mountains and coast is the violence of the tectonic processes still creating it.  Like New Zealand and Indonesia - the islands are very much a work in progress.

T-man..... you're just like a bottle of wine, getting better with age. (I remember as a teen the liquor store used to sell a bottle of wine called "Lonesome Charlie"..... maybe a relative of yours.  Of course you could never get the girlfriends to drink it..... they wanted more refined wine "Baby Duck" -LOL. I think it is now sold in Wall-mart for hummingbird feeders because I swear it is almost pure sugar.

First off as already expressed here my heart felt sympathies to the people of Japan affected by the recent disaster. Amazing people.

Secondly I know both the brands you speak of Tim - it was all part of the Canadian right "Getting drunk on a budget" which when those beverages were consumed usually included the  'Try not to throw up in public"

Tman.. Totally aqree. Japan is a tough and sensitive nation... I expect they will work through this with their heads high. Earl, I was thinking of the Nikon plant as I wait for details on the release of the specs on the D800 expected this summer. I am sure this will now be delayed and I will have to make a choice soon to go with the D700 or wait it out.  Cal, greast to hear your wives folks are doing well. Cheers JIM

Daacon.... another rite of passage was the boyfriend duty (hole your girlfriends hair back while she puked, while trying to avoid getting splatter on your shoes, and not spilling your beer).

Ahhhh Youth  Roll Eyes

I was happy to hear that they have managed to get power restored to some of the Nuclear Plants in Japan. Hopefully they will get the cooling pumps up and running and move another step forward to gaining control. The people working at those sites are heroes in my book.

Not to disturb your thoughts here but here is another recap of the Japanese Photo industry quake damage.

It's a sad news. Not only the Japanese got affected, the side effect chained through the whole while. As for Pentax at Malaysia. They are not feeling the impact yet. Checked with the distributor, they are still good in supply chain.
