Here's a few eagle shots from early last year, March 2008, taken just NE of Helena MT. I'll be back in that area in a couple of weeks for vacation and hope to get a few more.
These were taken with the K10 + Sigma 170-500 @500mm and monopod...

Wayne,  This is a beautiful series of a very majestic creature.  I wish you luck in getting more of these great images on you return visit.  They don't get much better than this.  Thanks for posting these great captures.

It took a while for me to get a handle on it, a monopod really helps. On my next trip up there I'll be using a tripod - It was AF and on the 1st 3 shots (liftoff) I was using 3 shot bracketing at either 1/2 or 1/3EV,

Thanks, that was taken near Townsend, MT while I was on a dirt road out in the middle of nowhere. I had plenty of time to cross but I came upon this photo opportunity and decided to hang out there for a while...

Thanks all for the comments,
I was scouting this eagle (area) for several days and most days the eagles would fly off high after I got there. After a few days they would stay low in the area longer and longer each time I arrived, but never long enough for me to set up a tripod. Even at 300 yards they would get spooked and fly off, or they finally had enough of the magpie harassing them.
