I have a 50mm F2, not that impressed wide, F1.7 is apparently much better wide and that is why you want a fast lens isn't it?

Yeap, I mean when the camera shows the red focus indicating focus achieved in the viewfinder. but sometimes the red focus light comes although the picture is oof.

Are you getting the green focus confirmation light at the bottom of the viewfinder?  The red one is to indicate what focus sensor has been selected.

Agreed. I've noticed that sometimes the red box will light, but the green focus icon is not on. The green icon gives a more accurate reading of focus, the red box just tells you where it's reading from. (which is always the centre on M lenses I believe)
