...... and Spyglass, my wife wants to marry you.
Jimbo after so many years with best she wouldn't be happy with little old Spyglass. (plus right about know she is probably making a little doll that bares an uncanny resemblance to yours truly, to hold all her sewing pins)
Tell her all the misguided little boy in me wanted was a hug.

Spyglass has hit the nail on the head
Men want to hunt ,Women want to gather.
Men are risk takers ,Women are risk analyzers.
Men are inquisitive ,Women are nosey.
Most of our women likely married us with dreams of shaping us into the man they really wanted to marry !
after 7-10 years we just get more set in our ways .
As she realizes he is only getting worse, he becomes a "failed project" this means the rest of the relationship becomes a "salvage operation"
We all know how to negotiate salvage terms though so then it becomes easier for us.
So barter away gents
Im currently accompanying the woman to a week long boring "art/ film festival" in the hope of being allowed to pick up a sigma 24-70 f/2.8 in spring.
went to the second night last night
-this lens better be good!
Also just to lend a photographic angle to this rant ,
Freddy dont forget the kit lens its good to play with as well
besides if you want the best 50 mm lens for pentax get a 1/4 super takumar for a few dollars with a film camera thrown in.
Its a superb lens and you can pick them up at a yard sale.
Heres a couple of shots with both the takumar is set ultra shallow at 1.4 aperture.
Best of luck anyhow chaps .

I still have a question about the smc Takumar 55mm 1.8 lens vs. m50mm1.7 pentax.
I had a lot of trouble focusing the 1.7.
Does the Takumar 55 focus easier.
Also, with the 50mm 1.7 I had to make two or three adjustments inside my K100D.
Do I have to make these adjustments with the Takumar 55mm. Freddy
P.S.. I really love some of the pictures taken with the Takumar, and I saw well over a hundred samples. For $56. I wouldn't mind having this lens. Maybe I can buy a used Pentax m42 adapter.
Please help me with this. Thanks, Freddy.

Jimbo..... I am still laughing, thanks for that.
Sammy Sung, your examples #3 & #5 are first rate. This is what f1.4 is all about. You really reminds us just how good the old glass really is.

Three five and six are takumar 1.4 aperture shots the rest are kit lens no filter 9.5 aperture.
The people who ignore old lenses are really missing out Spyglass .
This takumar 1.4 50mm (not the 1.7 or the 55 1.8 ) Is as cool as lenses get.
At 1.4 theres about an inch of sharpness in the depth of the whole photo some say this is unuseable but I beg to differ.
theres all sorts of great ways to use this shallow depth of field to shoot soft surreal photos with just a pinpoint of sharpness and a great bokeh to blur the background like in shot 5 an orchid with spanish moss disolving behind it.
by the time you get to f/4 you are into the sharp zone the photos will have a more filmlike appearance than most new lenses (due to the coating I guess).
These are manual lenses when using them I set the camera to spot metering and manual exposure.
they are not coated the same as new lenses so watch for lens flare.
This can be gotten around by purchasing a uv filter or a polariser 49mm thread these are cheap in this common size.
grab an m42 adapter and try any lens that will fit theres some real beautiful lenses out there .
theres a ton of junk too but when you find a good one its really good
when I can find the time I will post an m42 thread to show you some of my old and unusual lenses
Theres just something magical about manually focusing an old lens but there are cautions as well.
Your camera might lie to you and tell you that the shot is in focus in a couple of different places fear not.
This is where you use your eyes to determine if the shot looks in focus.
It also allows you to soften the focus for some old school special effects.
So grab an adapter and try some antique glass m42 was the commonest lens mount for years all over the world.
theres all sorts of exotic glass lying in junk piles Carl Ziess ,Pentacon vivitar etc.
The adapters and lenses work on all digital pentax slrs and you cant break your camera by trying them so give it a go.
Ive got a few kicking around myself and I love them.
thanks
Rob
