Cheers all. After 35 years of Nikon Film use, I chosen as my first serious DSLR to be the Pentax K-5. I am very glad about it. Smiley

I, too, shot Nikons for decades, was a film hold-out and switched to Pentax digital a few years ago. I did it more for lenses comparable to Zeiss at less than half the price than for what the bodies could do, and I've been more pleased with my decision which each Limited or * lens I've purchased. Don't get me wrong, the bodies were more than adaquate for what I do, which includes commercial work. However, from what I've determined from using the K5 for a few months now, it may be the best DSLR on the market. I will be very interested in your observations and images.

Well the WR was a big factor as well as in body image stabilization. But now the use of the K-5 has really grown on me. At present I have hardly explored more than just being able to "get to work on it". More to follow.

While I'm not one who can do it, I can tell you that from what I've read, it's fairly easy to convert old Nikkor lenses to k-mount as the registry distance is compatible with the Pentax k-mount. I actually have a converted Nikkor 24mm lens which someone converted, it's fully manual but but it works fine and is quite sharp.

Welcome to this forum and congratulations for your new camera. You will see pretty soon that the K-5 is a wonderful camera.

On a personal note, I am a Pentax and a Nikon user as well. For everyday's photography, I do use the K-5 but when attending sport events and needing a fast AF, I use the D3s. For high resolution work, I use the Pentax 645D.

Nice to have you aboard Kshapero !
I hope you enjoy your new K5 (great platform to step onto in terms of getting acquainted with Pentax), and your time here on PentaxWorld.

Right, but the K-5 remains my main camera. Both D3s and 645D do remain cameras for special use

I was referring to the relative importance of the "operator" rather than the hardware, Dom.

The "nut that holds the steering wheel's" the critical element!
