Today was the final of the Solo Piano Competition. I took a few shots during the competition, but the room were the competition is really dark, and with tungsten light.

The piano

All I can say is, WOW! Cheesy I don't think I've ever seen any better festival images anywhere. One of my favorites is the 2nd in the very last series. The key to high ISO shots is getting the proper exposure. I kept looking for noise in the shadows and haven't seen any because your exposures are right on. Being a pro only means you're making a living off your photography and not that it's better than an enthusiastic amateur can do. You've just proved that!

Thank you Steve.

Well, the noise is definitely present at the higher iso shots. I took care to expose the shots correctly to avoid having to increase exposure in pp which would bring out the noise. During PP, I also took care not to increase contrast or sharpness as both settings are likely to bring out the noise.

I think I would not have been able to make such shots a few years ago. I am not sure where it comes from, better camera, better lenses, or simply gained a lot of experience in photography.

It is true what you say about a pro. I had the feeling that a pro uses his equipment on a daily basis and thus has much more experience than an amateur, especially in difficult light conditions. But here, when I compare my photos from both K20 and K-7 to the photos of that pro on the blog of the radio station, I do largely prefer mine. Maybe I should send my photos to the radio...

This has been a nice series to watch. You've really improved your compositional skills in these. Well done.

Thank you Freddy. Nice to see you back on the forum.

This is not my usual kind of photography, and I am really satisfied by the results.
