Hi

A few weeks ago, I ordered the FA645 120/4 macro lens for the 645D. Delivery was said to be around February so I was pretty surprised when my shop called me today saying the lens is ready to be picked up.

Unfortunately, winter is not really macro season and being back at work since today, it is almost night when coming home. I nevertheless managed to get at least a very first test shot using the lens:

645D, FA645 120/4, f/8, 3s, 100iso, MLU, tripod

Is this a new lens from Pentax or the long standing FA 120 macro lens?

There is unfortunately no new lenses announced at all for the Pentax 645 system at the moment. This is the long standing FA 120 macro.

That's what I thought, but I was wondering if there was something new on the horizon. I've long wanted the 645 A 120f4 macro lens for my 645 (film) camera as it's supposed to be a wonderful lens (and expensive too) but I've settled for extension tubes for my infrequent 645 macro work.

BCB: I hesitated as well taking the cheaper manual focus lens, but while I do not really need an AF for macro work, this is the ideal portrait lens on a medium format camera and for this kind of work, I do appreciate the help of the autofocus.

Thank you Mike.

Well, my 645 is the original model and so AF is not an option any way you look at it. I have the 6454 A 135 LS lens which is very close in FL to the 120 with no macro capability and recently I acquired a 6x7 system with the 6x7 135 macro lens on it. Although I don't have a 6x7 to 645 adapter - yet, I will have one this year. Regardless, I like your shot!
