No Regret

I finally tracked down a very annoying problem (spontaneous reboots, but with no pattern) with my main PC.  It would reboot with little or no indication in the event logs of what had happened. It always seemed to happen when I was not at the computer (reminded me of my days as a service tech).  The time period between said events was from 2 hours to 24+ hours.  Turns out that the SSD I am using for my boot/system drive needed a firmware update, and bingo, problem solved.  Of course updating the firmware on your boot/system SSD is not *quite* plug and play but that is another story.

Next problem: Installing Windows Home Server 2011 to act as a backup/repository for all media (including my scanned and digital images). I cobbled together a kind of Frankenstein box out of various bits and pieces (including  2 x 6TB RAID 5 Hardware array). Long story short, WHS 2011 installed fine the first time around, but then began to exhibit odd problems like services stopping for no reason and the array went critical a couple of times (still don't know why).  I could not reinstall WHS for love nor money no matter what I did.  So I scrapped the whole project and started with new hardware which I am assembling now.  Like I said, I love PC's  Wink

Next problem: Rebuilding my Windows Media Center PC from MCE 2005 to Windows 7 MCE (x64). Really no problems other than getting my ATI Theater 550 Pro tuners to handshake properly with Windows 7.  A bit of finagling with some Vista x64 drivers solved that one, and the system is running fine.  Now I have to connect the extenders, and then the WHS 2011 server (once it is ready).  I love PC's Wink
