facebook is not that bad, it all depends on what you do with it.

I use it as some kind of networking tool. Covering quite some events as accredited photographer, I use it to contact the organizers of events or to post links to the photos taken or to the articles I wrote on IMPress (http://ipaimpress.com/author/dominique/) directly in the event's group to reach the interested people.

As a pro, I promote in many ways. Without really trying--really just being sociable and sharing pics, FB has worked better than other things. I like it, and I like the "friends" I've accumulated on it. It especially has been good for me locally.
