  I want to get a 2GB and a 4GB.  Sandisk ultra11

I don't know if you know this website but this guy has all sorts of stuff on Pentax equipment.

http://kmp.bdimitrov.de/index.html

Anyway, according to that site the answer is yes, the K100d should handle SDHC cards.

Also, there was a firmware upgrade for the k100d version 1.02 that 'offered improved support for SDHC cards. I presume you installed it already.

Thanks, Tim.   I tried to download the firmware update but for some reason the
computer couldn't let it through when I clicked on the link. So I guess I'll call Pentax.  Freddy

There should not be any problem, Freddy, Pentax released a firmware update to make the K100D compatible with SDHC.

Not sure why your download did not work, but maybe give a try under http://www.pentax.de/de/m...rmware%20Update%20102.zip to download firmware 1.02 for K100D.

Freddy,

I checked my K100D, in which I normally use SanDisk Ultra ll Plus 2gb cards, and it has firmware version 1.02. I tried one of the SanDisk Extreme 8gb SDHC cards from my K20D and it worked fine - I personally think the Extreme is a bit overboard in the K100D and you should be fine with the Ultra ll or ll Plus.  I only bought the Plus as they open up to fit in a USP port.

Hope this helps and merry Christmas.

Hey, Mike and Dom.   Nice to hear from you .  Happy Holidays to you both.

I tried again a little while ago and using a slightly different web address for Pentax was
able to download and install the l.2 upgrade, so I am now up to date.
I've gone ahead and ordered two  sandisk 2GB ultra two cards because they have always been
 adequate for me.
I just had an annoying spot on all my pictures and after two openings of the ccd sensor , with blasts of
air got rid  of the smudge and all is okay.   Regards,  Freddy
P.s.   Dominique, I don't recall if you are aware that I bought a used Pentax FA28-105 f4-5.6 powerzoom lens for $115. and I absolutely love it.  I only use it outdoors because doesn't seem to work indoors
without a lot of light.  I used my 50-200 for holiday shots and it worked great indoors with the flash.
I'm mostly using my new/used 16-45 for my outdoor shots.  Can't wait for Spring.

Ok, then there is no problem with SDHC cards with firmware 1.02.

I saw that you find yourself an FA28-105. There were at least 3 versions of the 28-105. I do have the FA28-105/3.2-4.5 which I liked much back in film days but do not use it since my switch to digital photography. I do however not know how it compares to the f4-5.6 powerzoom version.

Looks good. I should definitely give a try at the 28-105/3.2-4.5 on the K-5 (once I do get the K-5 back from service).

Yes, I'd love to see them Dominique.

By the way, for some reason, everytime I try to answer or replay to a topic, I'm asked to
log in again.  Is there a way I can avoid this.   Freddy

I do not know, I would however give a try at:

1. tick the box to stay logged in when logging in
2. avoid Internet Explorer (use for example Firefox or Google Chrome)

I just received the two SD cards which are marked Ultra not Ultra11.
Is there a difference in the write times of these .
My package reads Sandisk Ultra  SD card as does the actual card.
The packaging says up to 15mbs  100X.  The actual card reads Ultra  15mbs /s  with no 11 next to the word ultra.
Am I getting ripped off here.  Help, please.   Freddy

Of all the memory manufactures I dislike Sandisk the most. Most other brands have clear identification names and detailed specs of the products performance. As is typical the Ultra card suggests "up to 15mb/s read speed" and then states "write speed lower". As a photographer write speed is important. If you are shooting in burst mode you want your images to get from your buffer to your card as fast as possible to maintain free space in your cameras buffer. 54Freddy you probably won't have a problem with the card as its write speed will probably be fast enough (unless you are using burst mode, photographing sports, rapid events, shooting in Raw, or jpeg & Raw combined). Even at half the read speed you will still be writing an image a second to the card (based on images of 7.5mb or less).

Thanks, Spy.  A poster from another forum just advised me that Sandisk just made a name change,
  dropping the 11 after ultra.
Sure enough, I went to the SanDisk site and they said next to the product that this Ultra
has a name change, dropping the 11.
So since I've been perfectly happy with my old Ultra 11.  I'm not gonna worry about this.  I do almost
zero burst shooting and do not shoot  much raw, anymore.  I also bought a new Transcend USB card reader which was more expensive than my old reader.  Just upgrading and refreshing my accessories.  Cheap enough, when you weigh the cost against losing 411 shots . Freddy

You know, Spy, I was just thinking that I should use more burst mode because I shake so much
I would have a better chance of getting a sharp shot with a burst of about 3 shots.  Does that make sense.
