Hi everyone. When I was looking to buy a hot shoe flash for my K10D, I was dimly aware of possible options — and very disappointed that the mid-line Pentax flash doesn't offer a swivel reflector. Turns out there's a very large selection of compatible Pentax-dedicated flashes, and I ended up compiling a large amount of information for my own use.

After a bit, I realized that this would be very useful to other Pentaxians. So, I've created a very complete guide to P-TTL flash choices, including Pentax, Sigma, Metz, Promaster, and generic P-TTL flashes. This includes a lot of graphs and charts (like the one on the right), plus data expanded on my original notes.

I've made a lot of effort to ensure all of the information is correct — including a lot of exchange with vendor customer support, and with other Pentaxians — but if I've got anything wrong, or am missing anything important, please let me know. Thanks!

mattdm,

Thanks for taking the time to post your work on this subject. I've noticed many discussions here and on other websites about hot shoe flashes. This very well might clear some of the confusion on individual flash unit coverage and output. Although clicking on the link and the graph led me to a blank screen. The Definitive Guide in your signature bar is right on time. That should be enough for most.

Happy Holidays!

I recently bought a Metz 48 for my K10D.  While looking online for reviews and comparisons, I stumbled onto your website. It was incredibly informative and very helpful when I made my decision.  I appreciate your hard work and wanted to thank you.  As I come across threads of people asking about flash for their Pentax cameras, I will make sure your link is at the top of the list.
