The dedicated Pentax ringflash has more power (GN 16) and has greater compatibility of lenses. But only price will tell what the big difference is.

Hi Pihe, how is it the pentax more compatible with lenses? I had the flash when I used Canon and it worked with all lenses just fine (considering you have the ring adaptors). I am interested in your opinion cos that flash was in my list. Thanks

The Sigma flash (and the also-new Metz 15 MS-1) have another advantage: they're designed to work with Pentax's wireless P-TTL system.

This flash was announced for Pentax nearly 5 years ago, two years later Sigma informed me that they will never make a Pentax version of this flash.

Unfortunately yes. I had the Sigma flash on order during 8 months, in fact until Sigma informed me they will never make the Pentax version.

Now, I have the Pentax AF160 ringflash on order. It is now announced possibly for January, but could be later.

Does anybody know the release date (or an aproximation) and the price of the Metz? It looks interesting (thought I dont like the AAA battery power too much)

The AAA batteries would be a no deal issue for me. For the slight size difference required to use AA, not to mention the cost of batteries, or available selection of rechargeable batteries, and actual battery life, I am surprised that any manufacture would go with AAA batteries.

Hi Mike, I was referring to the Metz not the sigma. THe sigma has AA batteries. The problem with the metz is that I would have to buy new sets of AAA rechargeable batteries and it would be a waste considering that I already have 6 sets of AA rechargeable ones. Besides, it is my understanding that AAA rechargeable doesnt work as well as the AA ones.

Gruoso,

My apologies - you're quite right and my understanding is that AAA's are not as good.  Embarrassed

"my bailing bucket is missing, and I have run out of fingers to plug the holes"
(well stated Grusos, we are all on the same ship..... so can we get a few more fingers to plug some of these holes, Mike keep a sharp look out for a new bailer, Calsan man the rudder, pihe & mattdm pull in the main sheet, prepare to come about, a fair wind awaits off the starboard..... give us enough rum and we can sail her straight and narrow to the new world...... a place they call PentaxWorld)
