Recently purchased hard LCD screen protectors for my K-7.

http://www.acmaxx.net/pentax_k7.html
Arrived exactly 10 days after ordering (from USA to Australia) directly from their website.  They accept Paypal.
Following sequence shows installation on my K-7.  First photo shows old sticker type and typical peeling off at corners.  I cleaned the camera with a micro fiber cloth and some optical cleaning spray, prior to installation.  They are MUCH easier to install than the non-rigid sticker type.   Cheesy  However, still some care is necessary to avoid dust, so I had my blower handy.
I haven't tried any rough testing, but they are more clear than the old stickers I was using.  They do alter the camera's appearance, due to the silver frames, but I'm getting used to the new look.  I think black would have been preferable, to maintain the camera's low key appearance.

All in all, highly recommended.
Calum

Excellent product demo post. Makes me more interested in these than I've been. Thanks.

Same here!

Nice clean work here, Cal.  A very nice job on the installation and the photos.

Calum,

Thanks for taking the time to document the installation procedure.  Cool

Not sure if I would be able to install and document at the same time.  Undecided

I'll check to see if they have one for the K20D.

Again thanks for the excellent installation demo. Ok, a question crosses my mind. Why do I want this? In several years I haven't put a nick or scratch on my k10, k20, or k100's LCD. It's not like they've been babied either. I'd like to have some thoughts on that from a user or one with a LCD horror story. How 'bout it? Why should I want one of these?

Wow, that was a lot of replies!
I'll try to answer all in one go;

As they are rigid, it's a lot simpler to install them than the sticker type - It's a bit like positioning a tile: you just line up on one side and press down when it's in place.  The silver frame is useful here as it helps line things up and also shows that you're the right way up.

I've never scratched one of my own cameras, however at my last job the office camera (Canon 450d) would roll around the back seat of the work car and, predictably, the screen on that camera came to be fairly scratched up.  I think paying for your stuff yourself is the best guarantee that it's going to last.

Apart from that sort of abuse, shirt buttons or press studs and zippers can be a problem.  These rigid screen protectors may hopefully even provide a bit more protection against a heavy bang.

There's certainly enough pictures of broken lcds if you google for it.  Some brands' lcds even seem to self destruct without any outside pressure.

WOW! Talk about fast delivery here inside the US. The protectors I ordered on the 16th arrived in the mail today. I was quite pleased with the appearance and quality of these items. I noticed that upon applying them there is actually an airgap between the protector and the lcd's on the cameras. This is due to the sealing edge on the protector. I believe that with this airgap and the hard plastic material of the protector, this will add a good deal of protection to the lcd areas of the camera should one drop it or bang it into something. The units seem to adhere well to the lcd and I don't think in use you will have a problem with them coming loose. Cool

I recently installed a protector for my new GX20 after having a bad experience with my old GX10. I was a little careless when I used to pack the camera in the travel bag by placing the back of the camera to the bottom of the bag. Despite the insulation, a few small accessories made their way under the camera to cause damage. Obviously, I don't do that any more.   Wink

But I feel it's quite possible to cause noticeable scratching just by constantly cleaning the LCD. They say not to overclean a camera lens and I think the same applies to the LCD screen - hence the protector.

Well, I ordered mine for the K20D with the others on April 16 and mine finally arrived today.  Roll Eyes

Doesn't indicate for the K20D, just a #2 sticker - I will measure it to make sure and install tomorrow.  Cool
